IEEE YPSL Annual General Meeting 2026
The 2026 Annual General Meeting of IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka (YPSL) was held on January 17th at TRACE Expert City, Colombo, recognizing volunteer achievements, appointing the new Executive Committee led by Mr. Kulunu Weerasoory, and setting an inspiring vision for the year ahead.
Event Overview
The values of IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka (YPSL) are innovation, teamwork, and professional development. YPSL continues to act as a bridge between academia and industry, promoting a vibrant community of young professionals dedicated to excellence within IEEE, which is the largest technical professional organization in the world focused on advancing technology for mankind.
Under the leadership of Mr. Heshan Mallawaarachchi and his executive committee, the 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of IEEE YPSL was an extraordinary event recognizing the commitment of volunteers and achievements of the previous year. Through major initiatives, they have succeeded in fostering a sense of community within YPSL.
Held on January 17th at TRACE Expert City in Colombo 10, the event began with a warm welcome by Mr. Heshan Mallawaarachchi, Chair of IEEE YPSL, formally declaring the AGM open. In his opening remarks, he spoke of the progress made in his term and expressed his sincere gratitude to the members of the Executive Committee for their unwavering commitment and support throughout the year.
Key Highlights
Another major highlight of the evening was the announcement of the newly appointed Executive Committee for the year 2026. The Election Officer for the occasion, Ms. Warunika Hippola, formally announced the appointment of the officers following a call for volunteers and a thorough selection process that involved a series of interviews.
In a moment of leadership handover, Mr. Heshan Mallawaarachchi handed over the reins to the newly elected Chair for the term 2026, Mr. Kulunu Weerasoory.
In his address to the audience, the newly elected Chair for the term 2026, Mr. Kulunu Weerasoory, outlined his vision for the year 2026 and emphasized the need for enhancing the engagement of volunteers, increasing the visibility of IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka, and increasing the level of industry engagement and opportunities for young professionals, graduate students, and researchers.
Speakers & Guests
The event also saw the presence of distinguished guests. Mr. Kavinga Upul Ekanayake, Chair-Elect of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section and Guest of Honor, addressed the gathering. He shared his valuable experiences and insights gathered throughout his journey within IEEE. He spoke of the contributions made by the IEEE Sri Lanka Section and also commended the commitment and enthusiasm of volunteers in promoting the IEEE community in Sri Lanka.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Chamika Sudusinghe, Vice Chair (Program), IEEE Students; Vice Chair, IEEE Young Professionals; and Chair, Oversight Ad Hoc Committee, IEEE Young Professionals, gave an inspiring keynote speech. He spoke of the importance of IEEE in one’s professional development, his journey, and the significance of embracing opportunities while effectively managing time.
